![]() ![]() I really, really do not like how the female characters were treated in the game. Her journey can be considered to be a complete waste since, in the end, it seems like we don't need gods after all. She's an "idiot" for trusting Jedah and has to become the damsel in distress. Meanwhile, Celica is the one to make many more mistakes. Because once again, the male lord can do no wrong, he's the one in the right. Sure, our movement's always been limited in previous games when traversing desert maps, but not to this extent.Ībout the only thing I really enjoyed about the gameplay was the one thing a lot of people actually disliked: the dungeons.Īlso, I really do not like the story. Cantors are annoying to deal with, and only being able to move one space at a time in desert and swamp maps makes everything feel like a drag. It looks great and sounds absolutely amazing, but that's about all the good things I can say about it. What it did wrong: I'm going to decline to comment so I don't sic gaidenbro on myself. In Gaiden, Alm's guaranteed to ORK Duma with Celica support, but that isn't true in Echoes. It turned the Duma boss kill into an unreliable mess. I'd prefer the latter, which would add an element of dungeon planning and deciding how many times to enter dungeons and what dungeon pickups are worth getting.Įdit: wait I thought of another mistake it made gameplay-wise. Either they need to have less shitty dungeon controls or just get rid of the semi-random encounters and do fixed dungeon encounters like Gaiden did. My only gripe is that Metal Gear Emblem sucks. The maps and enemies are basically unchanged (hard mode changes some inventories and stats, but that's it), but the game plays so much better than Gaiden, even if you ignore the UI improvements. ![]() They did as much to the game as you could do to make it better while still being noticeably "gaiden." Forging and weapon arts add strategy to the otherwise extremely bland inventory system supports make reliability better. What did it do right: the gameplay (mostly). If someone is truly new to FE and TRPGs as a whole, I'd heavily recommend Blazing Blade (for the most accurate basic FE game experience), Awakening/Birthright if you've got a 3DS, hesitant Three Houses if you've got a switch and can deal with the mechanic overload at the start, and maybe Path of Radiance if your wallet can deal with being stabbed in the gut for a non-emulated experience. If a new player picked up Echoes as their first game they'd likely only be confused when they moved into other games of the franchise. This isn't to say that these changes are bad btw, they just make the game rather different. Also, the game isn't really meant to be replayed like the majority of the games in the series are (due to both the lack of customization and how much of a slog the maps become on later playthroughs). No weapon triangle, no weapon durability (though fates doesn't have this either), extremely limited unit customization (only the villager units you get at the start have any choice in what classes they can become and classes don't branch), using magic drains HP, dungeon crawl sections are a thing, and likely quite a bit more that I'm just forgetting. Simply because it is so different gameplay wise from the rest of the series and especially compared to the modern games. This game isn't a good jumping off point for beginners. Like god why does everyone talk about LiTaA being the most over used FE song, when it ain't even on the same ball park as blade on the wind.īasically, liked it on my first playthrough, found it to be the weakest 3ds game later on.Įveryone else has answered your first three questions, so I'm just gonna answer your last. I now absolutely despise blade on the wind for interrupting the gorgeous map themes. One relatively small gripe that really gets on my nerves is the removal of dynamic ost. Like the voice acting is great, but the supports really lack in quality and quantity. This leads to echoes having very little replay value, which is bad for a FE game.Īlso, looking back, I found the cast of characters to just be meh. World map reinforcements drag the game to an even slower hault. The ones where the first time going through you have a great time and jesus christ it never feels the same on repeat playthroughs.Īll of the upsides like decent story, and great presentation get pushed to the back of your mind when you contend with obnoxiously slow and bad maps. I think echoes is one of those "One playthrough games". ![]()
